Help and Questions

How do I copy the original email?
  1. Gmail: open the email, click the three dots at the top right, click Show original, then Copy to clipboard.
  2. Outlook.com or Microsoft 365: open the email, click the three dots, then View, then View message source.
  3. Yahoo Mail: open the email, click the three dots, then View raw message.
  4. Apple Mail on a Mac: select the email, then choose View, Message, Raw Source.
  5. Thunderbird: open the email, then choose View, Message Source.
  6. iPhone or Android: most email apps cannot show this. Please use a computer or your email's website.
Why can't I just forward the spam?

Forwarding creates a new email from you. The original record is replaced, so the trace would point to your own email company instead of the spammer.

What does "confidence" mean?

High: we recognized your email company, and its record shows which computer handed over the message. Medium: the record was unusual, or the email was forwarded. Low: we could not tell which parts are genuine, so no report can be made. This protects innocent people.

Who receives my report?

The abuse team listed in the official registry for the network that sent the email. If the spam links to a website, the company hosting that site may get a copy too. You choose before anything is sent.

Will the spammer see my name or address?

We remove your name and address from every report, including where they are hidden in code. A spammer can sometimes hide a unique code that we cannot recognize, so please read the preview before you approve.

Why must I report within 2 days?

Companies keep their records for a short time. After two days most abuse teams can no longer act. You can still trace older spam, and we save it for statistics.

What happens after I send?

The abuse team investigates and may shut down the sender. Many teams never reply, which is normal. Any answer appears on your report's page.

Why is there a daily limit?

Abuse teams ignore services that flood them. New accounts can send 10 reports a day. After the first week, the limit rises to 50.

What is a mailhost?

The computer that receives your email. Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, iCloud, Proton, Zoho, GMX, and Fastmail are recognized automatically. Only add a mailhost if your email comes through your own or your company's server.
